Biography
Through her diverse concert activities, clarinetist Pamela Coats (USA) has established an international reputation. As a soloist, she is regularly featured in renowned concert series. She has performed at venues including Carnegie Hall (New York, USA), the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Gasteig Munich, the Beethoven-Haus and Beethovenhalle Bonn, the Berlin Philharmonie, and the Chicago Cultural Center (USA).
As a dedicated chamber musician, Pamela Coats collaborates with a variety of ensembles, including the Asambura Ensemble Hannover, String Archestra Berlin, Canea Quartet Hamburg, Octans Ensemble Düsseldorf, and International Chamber Artists (Chicago, USA). She also serves as Artistic Director of Sinfonietta VivazzA (www.vivazza.com). In 2026, under her artistic direction, Sinfonietta VivazzA was invited as the only international ensemble to participate in the National Commemoration Ceremony in Terezín (Czech Republic). In connection with this project, the ensemble was also featured on the renowned WDR 3 radio program TONArt.


Her orchestral experience encompasses opera, ballet, and symphonic productions, as well as radio productions for WDR 3, Deutschlandfunk, and National Public Radio (Chicago/New York/North Carolina). She has collaborated with organizations and ensembles including the Bundesjugendballett of the Staatsoper Hamburg, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the Rom Festival Orchestra, the Gateways Music Festival (Rochester, New York), and the Festival International de Musique Saint-Georges (Guadeloupe, Caribbean).
Her interdisciplinary solo projects bring together music, film, and performance into independent Gesamtkunstwerke and have been supported by grants from the Deutsche Orchester-Stiftung, the Akademie der Künste Berlin, and the Deutscher Musikrat. In collaboration with visual artist Ele Runge (https://www.ele-runge.com/) she creates multimedia works that weave together musical interpretation, film, and performative elements.
In 2021, the duo developed the art film Stimmungen eines Fauns (Moods of a Faun), based on a composition by Ilse Fromm-Michaels, through the Pavillon Fellowship of Kulturwerk SH. The film was selected for the 2022 exhibition HIER & Hier at the Kulturzentrum Die Drostei.
Their collaborative art film Just Another Tuesday was nominated in 2024 for an exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA) in New York for the 2024– 25 season. The film premiered at the International Wiesbaden Photo Festival in 2025. In 2026, Just Another Tuesday will be presented in a new form as an interdisciplinary Gesamtkunstwerk for solo clarinet, film, and performative dance. The production is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.
